Israel Awareness Committee: The Israel Awareness Committee's Book Club will be reading Amos Oz's A Tale of Love and Darkness, soon to be make into a motion picture with Natalie Portman. We are grateful to Elie Yudewitz who will read Parashat Behaalotekha this Shabbat, the 21st anniversary of his Bar Mitzva. We are saddened by the loss of Rochelle Shoretz, daughter of Morris Shoretz and Sherry Tenenbaum, step-daughter of Jeffrey Tenenbaum and Carol Ann Shoretz, sister of Dr. Dalia Nagel, Michael Shoretz, and Lilly Shoretz, mother of Shlomo and Dovid Mirsky, and founder of Sharsheret. Rabbi Bellino's class in Avot d'Rabbi Natan continues. This text is a commentary and elaboration on Pirkei Avot that was compiled during the Geonic Period. This late Midrash provides explanations of most of the aphorisms of Avot, as well as hagiographic on the lives of many of the sages quoted. Class meets on Shabbat, one hour before Mincha. Shavuot Dinner and Late Night Torah Study: Please join us next Saturday night, May 23rd for a dairy dinner at 9:15 PM in the Social Hall, which will follow an 8:40 PM Maariv.

Lager BaOmer: Beer fest + Lag BaOmer on Wednesday, May 6 from 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM. Last year's event was a huge success, with more than 50 beer enthusiasts in attendance and a Tribeernal judging for awards. The cost of admission is a six pack/growler of your choice, and we'll serve a whole lot of grilled meats. DO NOT bring anything on the list of blacklisted beers. Please join us on Shabbat Mevarchim (May 15-16) as we welcome our third Shabbat Scholar of 5775. Rabbi Simcha Krauss is the Av Beit Din, presiding arbitrator of the International Beit Din. A Maggid Shiur in YU’s Isaac Breuer College program for over two decades, he spent served many years as a highly regarded pulpit rabbi in New York and St. Louis and on university Political Science faculties. Rabbi Krauss served as the president of the Religious Zionists of America before his Aliyah in 2005, where he’s a Senior Rosh Yeshiva at Yeshivat Eretz Hatzvi.

This Shabbat we are honored to welcome Rabbi Yehuda Sarna. Rabbi Sarna is Rabbi/ Executive Director of the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life at New York University as well as University Chaplain. He will deliver the sermon at 10:30 AM.

Pesach is less than 4 weeks away. Power of Attorney forms for the sale of Chametz may be found here. Although there is a widespread custom to pay the rabbi who facilitates the sale of chametz, Rabbi Bellino urges that you not do so. Instead, please feel free (but not obligated) to contribute to his Discretionary Fund. The most convenient way to do so is online. Be sure to specify that this is a Pesach donation to the Discretionary Fund.

Another reminder that the weekday Mincha/Maariv minyan has been cancelled due to attendance struggles. If you need to request a minyan, please check online for times at nearby synagogues, or use our Discussion Board.

Purim is just a few days away! Here is an outline of our programs and events, starting this Sunday:

Mishloach Manot: The deadline to participate in our Mishloach Manot fundraiser is TOMORROW (February 27) at 12:00 PM. We have collaborated with a chocolatier in Brooklyn  and packages are available in three sizes according to sponsorship level: $180, $118, and $54. To order, email rabbi@sixthstreetsynagogue.org with your level of sponsorship.

Kids' Purim Party: Sunday, March 1 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Arts and crafts activities including mask making and balloon animals, as well as refreshments will be available. This party is open to everyone in the community at large -- no membership required.

Megilla Reading and Purim Party: On Purim night (March 4), we will daven Maariv and read the Megilla at 6:30 PM, to be immediately followed by our Purim Party. This year's theme is "That '70s Shul." Be sure to dress in your grooviest '70s threads or as the raddest '70s icon. Disco Fever... Dynomite! At 10:00 PM we will welcome the University of Purim, who will be hosting an additional party.

Purim Day and Seuda: On Purim Day (March 5), we will offer two morning Megillah readings in the morning and a Purim Seuda in the afternoon. Click here to RSVP to the Seuda\.

Foundations and Thoughts of Maimonides classes will not meet next week due to Purim.

On Sunday, March 1, we will welcome Rabbi Sam Intrator who will be leading a discussion of the Stories of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. The event will run from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Later on in the evening there will be a concert starting at 6:30 PM. Click here for more information.

The third installment of the Monday Night Lecture Series will be March 9 at 7:00 PM with Carole Basri: "From the Ethnic Cleansing of the Iraqi Jews to ISIS: Lessons Learned." Pizza and beer will be served. RSVP by March 8.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Arezoo & Sam Jesselson on Arezoo’s appointment to the Board of Directors of Sharsheret. Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain,” is a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer. Their mission is to offer a community of support to women diagnosed with breast cancer or at increased genetic risk, by fostering culturally-relevant individualized connections with networks of peers, health professionals, and related resources.
