News

Join us - in partnership with the Stanton Street Shul - for a celebration of As the Story Goes: Funny, Strange, and Serious Stories of Yiddishland’s Jews compiled by Mordekhai Lipson, newly translated and edited by Jonathan Boyarin and Jonah Sampson Boyarin. The evening will feature the father-and-son translators in conversation about the art of preserving Yiddish humor, memory, and voice for a new generation. Together, they’ll explore how these vivid tales capture the spirit of a vanished world and the lives that continue to echo from it. A wine and cheese reception will follow. This event is free, but we ask that you register in advance.

Please join us for a Shabbat Dinner with our friends from the Ask a Jew Podcast. The "Ask a Jew" podcast is a comedy and culture podcast hosted by Yael Bar-Tur, a secular Israeli, and Chaya Leah Sufrin, an Orthodox Jewish woman. They discuss a wide range of topics, from serious issues like world politics to more lighthearted subjects like dating and pop culture, often contrasting their different perspectives. That week Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 4:30 PM, followed by Friday Night Kiddush at 5:30 PM, and Shabbt Dinner at 6:30 PM. We limiting Sixth Street attendance to 30 to preserve room for our new Podcast friends. Sign up here.

At Kol Nidrei, Rabbi Bellino asked for your continued assistance in running shul and in protecting it as a space to run to. Please join him in these efforts by participating in the Kol Nidrei campaign. You may do so here

As we begin a new cycle of Torah reading and study, we ask that you consider joining us in Tanakh Yomi, our (near) daily study of Bible that facilitates its completion in one year. You may find the 5786 Schedule here. The following resources are available for the Book of Joshua: Brief Outline - Detailed Outline - Key Figures - Key Places - Map of Cananite Tribes - Map of the Conquest - Map of the Division of the Land More resources can be found on our Tanakh Yomi Page. The Book of Judges begins next week and there are already resources online!

Israel in our Hearts

Please continue to you support each other. While this sort of peril and loss, as well as the emotional responses they engender, aren’t new to our national history, they are - in fact - new to most of us. Remember that we all come to the (kiddush) table with different psychological skill sets and traumas. Look out for one another, check in, and be flexible to, and understanding of, the broad spectrum that is the emotional health of others. We ask that when you speak to each other, you be mindful of potentially inflammatory language and gruesome content; particularly in the presence of children.

Find comfort in community as we process the daily horrors and pray for safety, peace, and consolation.
