Community News

We wish a Mazal Tov to Sara Eisen & Matthew Levine on their engagement.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Ellen Cherrick upon her siyum of Tanakh Yomi.

We wish a Mazal Tov to our friends Christina & Akiva Katz upon the birth and naming of their daughter, Refaela Pnina. Tegadluha l'Torah l'Chupah, ulMaasim Tovim.

We join in mourning the untimely passing of Beth & Morris Faitelewicz and Yehuda Bayme. Beth & Morris were beloved members of the Lower East Side community, and important advocates for the downtown Jewish community. Yehuda was from Riverdale, was a friend to several of us, and would occasionally visit Sixth Street. May their memories be a blessing and may their families experience healing and consolation.

We wish a Refua Shelaima to our friend, Murray Nussbaum, husband of Risa Gerstein. Please keep Murray - Moshe ben Rachel - in your prayers.

High Holy Days: Rosh Hashana begins on Sunday evening. Please see the website for more information on seating, tickets, and payment. Please email Rabbi Bellino to confirm your seating. The holiday schedule may be found here.

This Rosh Hashana we will be joined by Rabbis Yehuda Sarna and Joe Wolfson as well as several students from the NYU community. Rabbi Sarna will lead Shacharit and speak on the second day of Yom Tov. Rabbi Wolfson will teach between Mincha and Maariv both days.

PARTY!!! Rosh Hashana is a long day - and lacking in kiddush. There are also many new people to meet. Why not come back later in the day - 5:30 PM to be exact - for some honey cake and a cocktail? This year's party has been sponsored by Dr. Sara & Michael Aingorn in celebration of the Downtown Community.

Membership: We ask you to please renew your commitment to our synagogue. Your membership dues are essential to our operation and growth. There are, of course, various membership options. We hope that one works for you.

Individual - $450 (Includes One High Holidays ticket)

Associate - $300 (Does not include High Holiday Seats)

Downtown Community

We are thrilled that there are new Kosher options in our neighborhood.

Mocha Burger at 496 Laguardia Place.

Prime Sushi at the Promenade Sports Bar, 344 Third Avenue.

Please support all of our local Kosher restaurants.

We are proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad, an Orthodox rabbinic network, founded by Rabbis Sarna & Bellino, intended to advance the welfare and flourishing of the Downtown community. Check out the Va'ad on Facebook for more information.

Feedback

We encourage your participation and insight. Feedback to Elie Yudewitz, Rabbi Bellino or the Shul Office would be most appreciated. Please contact us with any suggestions and/or concerns, or most importantly, to volunteer. You can also make suggestions here.

Sixth Street Community Synagogue

We like to think we're different. Everyone from the traditionally Orthodox to the occasionally observant feels at home here - 365 days a year. We hope you do too.
