News From The Community

Foundations and Thoughts of Maimonides classes resume this Wednesday, January 7. Students in the Maimonides class should review Yesodei HaTorah and Deot.

Our second visiting scholar Shabbaton is January 30-31 with Rabbi Saul Berman. There will be a Friday night dinner in the Social Hall, and Rabbi Berman will speak after dinner and on Shabbat morning and during Seudah Shelishit. Watch out for an email with more details next week.

CholentFest has been moved back one week to February 7. More time to devise your award-winning recipe! Further information will be sent out in the next two weeks.

 

The second installment of the Monday Night Lecture Series will be February 9 with Dr. Michelle Friedman presenting "Why be Jewish in 2015? Understanding Contemporary Religious Choices." Pizza and beer will be served. Stay tuned for event RSVP details.

Additional thanks go to Rabbi Bellino for playing guitar, and Chaim Shechtman for helping clean up. Check out photos of both the kids and adults parties here.

Stay tuned for more information in the very near future about Cholent Fest on January 31. Last year's event was a blast, and we're expecting equally fun cholent-eating times in 2015.

We wish a refua shelaima to our President, Richard McBee, who is recovering from surgery.

Get excited for our 7th Night of Chanukah Party on Monday, December 22. Kids activities will be from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, and will include cookie decorating and a dreidel spinning contest. The adult party is from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, featuring music, beverages, franks in blankets, latkes, sufganiyot, as well as a dreidel spinning contest (regular and upside-down.) Don't forget to BYOD (bring your own dreidel.)

Shacharit Chanukah is at 6:20 AM and Chanukah Rosh Chodesh (Monday and Tuesday) will be at 6:15 AM. Please make every effort to attend and support our morning minyan.

Please note that both Foundations and Thought of Maimonides classes will not meet the next two weeks due to the upcoming federal holidays. The normal schedule resumes again on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

On Monday, we held the first class of the Monday Night Lecture Series, "Beyond the Bechor: Jewish Estate Planning Concerns" with our very own Cori A. Robinson, Esq. Thanks to the 30 members of our community who attended.

This Wednesday, the Foundations Classes begin at 6:30 PM with a half hour of Hebrew Reading, and continue for an hour at 7:00 PM.

Rabbi Bellino's class on the Thoughts of Maimonides will meet this Wednesday at 8:00 PM. Find handouts and more information here.

Kaplan is a Professor of Rabbinics and Jewish Philosophy at McGill University in Montreal. This Shabbaton includes Kabbalat Shabbat at 4:25 PM, a Friday night dinner at 5:30 PM ($35 and RSVP required), a lecture at 7:00 PM (free to attend), Shabbat morning sermon, and study at Seudah Shelishit.
