Community News

We wish a Refuah Shelaima to Dr. Yehoshua Livnat who is recovering from surgery.

Thank you to all who came out for Cholentfest 2015! Congratulations to our winners: Rhonda Malkin (judges' choice) and Phyllis Liberman and Arezoo Jesselson (popular vote). Thank you to our judges: Jade Bailey-Assam, Stanley Sherman, and Shlomi Salant. A huge thank you to Eli Szus for organizing the event and to the Social Committee for their help and support.

The weekday Mincha/Maariv minyan has been struggling more and more. As a result, we have no choice but to cease to provide this service for the community, knowing that most times, we're not actually providing the service requested. As such, after March 8th, we will no longer offer a weekday Mincha/Maariv minyan. A separate email will go out soon. If you need to request a minyan, please check online for times at nearby synagogues, or use our Discussion Board.

We announced the shul's new online Discussion Board earlier this month. You are encouraged to join the group as an outlet to communicate with other members about important events, news, announcements, ensuring a minyan during the week to say Kaddish, and more. It is completely voluntary. Email the PR/Communications Committee with questions: sixthstreetsynagoguepr@googlegroups.com.

Events

Shul Trivia Night! Do you have lots of useless knowledge you like to share with people? Are you looking for new ways to feel smarter? We'll be hosting a trivia night at the shul on Saturday, February 21. Form a team with up to 4 of your nerdiest friends and see how you stack up! Contact Cori Robinson (coriannrobinson@gmail.com) if you'd like to lead a team.

Purim is coming! Plans are under way for a children's party on March 1st, and a Seudah on March 5th. More details to follow, including information on mishloach manot. The theme for Purim this year is "Downtown Disco", so start thinking about your 70s style costumes!

Classes

Foundations and Thoughts of Maimonides classes will meet again as scheduled on Wednesday, January 28 at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

The third installment of the Monday Night Lecture Series will be March 9 with Carole Basri presenting, "The Tragic History of Ethnic Cleansing in Iraq: Jews, Christians, Kurds, Shiites and Yazedis." Pizza and beer will be served. RSVP information will be forthcoming.

Feedback

We encourage your participation and insight. Feedback to Elie Yudewitz, Rabbi Bellino or the Shul Office would be most appreciated. Please contact us with any suggestions and/or concerns, or most importantly, to volunteer. You can also make suggestions here.
