News

Rosh HaShana was particularly beautiful. We are especially grateful to our Baalei Tefila (Neil Kitainik and Meir Shapiro), Gabbaim (Elie Yudewitz and Choni Bellino), Choni Bellino and Keshet Bellino for helping to prepare the sanctuary, Vincenzo Aiosa and his team for their work continued care and enhancement of our building, and to Rabbi Joe Wolfson for his beautiful sermon on the second day.

Yom Kippur begins this Monday night.  To attend services, you must have a confirmed reservation and sit in your assigned seat. Our High Holy Day Services are limited to the fully-vaccinated. (This requirement excludes children under 12 who are welcome, but must sit with their parents in the sanctuary or distance play - while masked - in the social hall.) Masks must be worn (properly) by all in attendance.

We will be finalizing the seating and schedule early this week. Please let us know ASAP if you are planning on attending (if you have not made a reservation or received a confirmation), if you are no longer planning on attending, or with any questions or concerns.

News

We wish a Mazal Tov to Rabbi Bellino and his students upon the completion of Tractate Avot. It only took two entire summers.

The High Holy Days are three weeks away. it Unfortunately, the current and expected impact of COVID and its variants remains less predictable, and so we are carefully monitoring this constantly-changing path and frequently consulting with our medical advisors. As of now we plan on convening High Holy Day services, but with some important adjustments.

  • Attendance will be limited to the fully-vaccinated. (This requirement excludes children under 12 who are welcome, but must sit with their parents in the sanctuary or distance play - while masked - in the social hall.)
  • Masks must be worn by all in attendance.
  • Less essential parts of the service will be skipped.

We may have to limit the number of people that we can accommodate and depending on demand may have to offer multiple services, as we did last year. Please help us get a better sense of your intentions, so that we may plan appropriately.

For now, we simply ask you - our members and friends: Do you plan on attending our Rosh HaShana and/or Yom Kippur services? How many will be in your party? Do you feel that you can commit to our community practices and expectations? Would you appreciate outdoor Shofar services? Please communicate your High Holy Day intentions (both affirmative and negative) - and any questions or concerns. Sooner, rather than later.

Selichot begin NEXT Saturday night, Agust 28th at 10:00 PM. Join us!!!

Friday Night Kiddush has been sponsored by Ellen R. Cherrick in gratitude to Rabbi Gavriel Bellino, the Bellino family, and the entire Sixth Street Synagogue community.

Shabbat Morning Kiddush has been sponsored by friends of Ellen R. Cherrick in celebration of her Aliyah and in recognition of her inimitable kindness, devotion, and loyalty to her shul, her friends, and her community.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Ellen R. Cherrick on her upoming Aliyah.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Jill Golub & Zach Griff on their wedding this past Sunday.

With the High Holy Days just about a month away, it is time to begin our preparations for our predictably beautiful and safe services. Unfortunately, the current and expected impact of COVID and its variants remains less predictable, and so we are carefully monitoring this constantly-changing path and frequently consulting with our medical advisors.

Covid-19 Update - Masks On!

Dear Friends,

This Shabbat we will exercise greater vigilance and return to wearing masks. We expect everyone present, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth while inside. Kiddushes will be held outdoors.

We are carefully monitoring the constantly-changing path of Covid-19 and frequently consulting with our medical advisors. This decision is largely based on NYC's recent increase in positivity, in anticipation of a larger attendance this Shabbat (Mazels!), and in preparation for the High Holy Days.

As always, we appreciate your cooperation and will update you regularly. We encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Gavriel Bellino, Rabbi

There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

Membership Drive 2021

05/25/2021 02:27:24 PM

May25

Dear Friends,

With the new fiscal year beginning on June 1st, it is once again time for us to encourage membership, asking you to formalize and renew your annual commitments to our synagogue.

Membership dues go a long way in supporting our operating expenses, enhancing our thoughtful and unique programming, and allowing us to make many essential repairs and aesthetic improvements to our 175-year-old building. After a year like no other, your partnership in our rebuilding and revitalization is more important than ever.

There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

Membership Level
Family $1000
Individual $550
Associate  $300
Student $150
  • For Membership Renewal, please click here
  • For New Members, please click here

You can also Venmo us @sixthstreetsynagogue, or mail a check to 325 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10003.

  • Should you prefer, membership payments may be made in installments. You can easily arrange this through our website and/or with the help of our office.
  • If you have recently paid membership, please ignore this request. If you - for whatever reason - generally pay membership at another time of the year, you may continue to do so.
  • If you are having financial difficulty meeting the membership dues obligations, please contact our Rabbi or Treasurer to discuss alternate financial arrangements. All conversations will be kept confidential.

Membership to our synagogue comes with no privileges, but your support is essential to our important work. Thank you - once again - for being a part of our great renewal.

Elie Yudewitz, President
Tali Zilberman Neuhaus, Secretary
Alan Schwartz, Treasurer
Gavriel Bellino, Rabbi

News

Our thoughts and tefillot are with Medinat Yisrael. We mourn with the families who have lost loved ones, and we pray for those who have been injured or traumatized by the devastating violence, attacks and terror. We pray that the violence cease and for a return to a more peaceful coexistence.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Tali Zilberman & David Neuhaus upon the redemption of their firstborn son, Chaim. We are grateful to their Kohein, who facilitated the transaction.

We offer blessings of consolation to our friends, Renee Moskowitz & Stuart Krause, upon the passing of their son Alex.

We are grateful to all those who made Shavuot so lovely, especially to Ellen R. Cherrick who sponsored the beautiful flowers in memory of her parents, Tali Zilberman & David Neuhaus who sponsored our delicious kiddushes, and Rabbi Joe Wolfson who taught us on Monday afternoon.

Aliyot are back for the fully vaccinated. If you need help scheduling a vaccination appointment, please let us know.
