Being separated from our building - and from one another - has been painful, but we are confident that in doing so, we successfully protected our community and demonstrated that we value life above all.
This Shabbat we will again hold a 9:00 AM Minyan, with masks required and social-distance preserved. Attendance is monitored and limited, and congregants are seated throughout the entire main sanctuary in individually marked seats. The social hall is closed. Services are shortened and Kiddush offered to-go. Hand sanitizer is available. Please review our social distancing protocols and expectations here.

Yom Kippur
Assuming that the local infection rates stay low, we will hold modified Yom Kippur services. We are indeed blessed with a large sanctuary; however, we are limited in the number of people that we may safely accommodate. RSVPS are required and shul members have been prioritized. Seats will be assigned and masks will be required.
You will not be allowed to enter unless you have a confirmed reservation. If you are unsure of the status of your reservation, contact us immediately.
There are two options for Kol Nidrei:
- Early Kol Nidrei will begin at 4:00 PM with Mincha and will include the Kol Nidrei service, a short speech, and one of the Yom Kippur evening poems. The service will conclude at 5:00 PM after which you should go home and eat your pre-Yom-Kippur meal. You should be careful to conclude the meal and light candles by 6:25 PM.
- Zman (on-time) Kol Nidrei will begin at 6:20 PM and will be live-streamed (until 6:42 PM). A short speech will be followed by a shortened Yom Kippur Maariv. Note that at at this point, you are not permitted to attend both this Kol Nidrei and Neilah. You will have to choose one.
There are two options for the morning service.
- The full morning service will begin at 8:00 AM. It will include a mostly rabbinic Shacharit but will include the penitential prayers. There will be a Torah reading, Yizkor, as well as an abridged Musaph.
- The late half-service will begin with Yizkor at 1:00 PM. Yizkor will be followed by an abridged Musaph.
Finally, there will be one service on Yom Kippur afternoon.
- It will begin with Mincha at 4:45 PM and then Neila at 6:00 PM. There will be only one Neila service, and we are limiting Neila attendance to our membership. Remember that you must choose between the Zman Kol Nidrei (at 6:20 PM) and the Neila service.

The 2020 Census needs your help! The Manhattan self-response rates for Census 2020 are considerably lower than 2010, most likely due to the pandemic and people leaving the city. Quite simply, each completed census brings money to their neighborhoods, ensures representation in Washington and can be filled out online in less than ten minutes at www.my2020census.gov. You do not need a paper form or code to fill out the census, you can simply go to my2020census.gov and write-in your NYC address.
In the market for a Mitzva? 700 free kosher meals are distributed on the Lower East Side daily, and volunteers are needed! If you can help, please contact Penina Seidman.

With a new fiscal year having begun on June 1st, it is once again time for us to encourage membership, asking you to formalize and renew your annual commitments to our synagogue. Despite our four month hiatus, this has been a year of significant growth, meaningful services, insightful classes, festive parties, engaging children’s programming, and respected and inspiring speakers. We continue to make essential repairs and aesthetic improvements to our 174 year old building. Membership dues go a long way in making all of this possible. Classes
Our classes are being held on Zoom. For those of you who do not know, Zoom is a remote conferencing service that facilitates meetings online, by video and by phone. A useful instructional video may be found here. We strongly encourage you to download the free app to your phones and/or computers and then click the meeting links that we provide. If you do not have the technology to participate over the Internet, you may simply dial in. We will provide the links and numbers in a separate email as well as PDFs of any relevant class material. MASEKHET AVOT: Rabbi Bellino's untraditionally traditional approach to Masekhet Avot. Mondays and Thursdays, 7:00 PM.
FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM.
PARDES: Pardes is the Talmudic story of the search for mystical revelation. We will explore these Talmudic tales, mystical literature (Hekhalot) and other narratives of Divine encounters. Tuesdays, 8:00 PM.
