Being separated from our building - and from one another - has been painful, but we are confident that in doing so, we successfully protected our community and demonstrated that we value life above all.
This Shabbat we will again hold a 9:00 AM Minyan, with masks required and social-distance preserved. Attendance is monitored and limited, and congregants are seated throughout the entire main sanctuary in individually marked seats. The social hall is closed. Services are shortened and Kiddush offered to-go. Hand sanitizer is available. Please review our social distancing protocols and expectations here.

High Holy Days
Assuming that the local infection rates stay low, we will convene High Holy Day services. We are blessed with a large sanctuary; however, we are limited in the number of people that we can safely accommodate. Additionally, we plan to shorten the service, thereby limiting any exposure. Seats will be assigned, tickets will be distributed, and masks will be required.
For Rosh HaShana there will be two separate services, each day. The earlier service will be a complete (albeit shortened) service. The later service will consist of Shofar (on the second day) and Musaph exclusively. Services will be lead by Meir Shapiro and Neil Kitainik. They will be taking turns.
- The Early Service will begin at 7:30 AM with Pesukei d'Zimra. HaMelekh at 8:00 AM. A piyut-free Shacharit will be followed by Torah Reading. At 9:00 AM there will be a short sermon on the first day, and the Shofar service on the second. Musaph will conclude by approximately 10:30 AM.
- Following the Early Service we will wipe down the pews and machzorim (We might ask for your help).
- The Later Service will begin at 11:30 AM with a short sermon on the first day, and Shofar on the second. Musaph will conclude by approximately 1:00 PM.
Pick one option! We will need to know the number of men and women in your party, as well as whether these men and women are social-distancing from one another. You cannot pick one option for one day and the other for the second day. Please RSVP ASAP.
Although the Yom Kippur schedule has not yet been formalized, you can expect a similar procedure (Just swipe out Shofar Service with Yizkor!). You will most likely be asked to choose between Kol Nidrei and Neila as well. Stay tuned!

The 2020 Census needs your help! The Manhattan self-response rates for Census 2020 are considerably lower than 2010, most likely due to the pandemic and people leaving the city. Quite simply, each completed census brings money to their neighborhoods, ensures representation in Washington and can be filled out online in less than ten minutes at www.my2020census.gov. You do not need a paper form or code to fill out the census, you can simply go to my2020census.gov and write-in your NYC address.
In the market for a Mitzva? 700 free kosher meals are distributed on the Lower East Side daily, and volunteers are needed! If you can help, please contact Penina Seidman.

With a new fiscal year having begun on June 1st, it is once again time for us to encourage membership, asking you to formalize and renew your annual commitments to our synagogue. Despite our four month hiatus, this has been a year of significant growth, meaningful services, insightful classes, festive parties, engaging children’s programming, and respected and inspiring speakers. We continue to make essential repairs and aesthetic improvements to our 174 year old building. Membership dues go a long way in making all of this possible. Classes
Our classes are being held on Zoom. For those of you who do not know, Zoom is a remote conferencing service that facilitates meetings online, by video and by phone. A useful instructional video may be found here. We strongly encourage you to download the free app to your phones and/or computers and then click the meeting links that we provide. If you do not have the technology to participate over the Internet, you may simply dial in. We will provide the links and numbers in a separate email as well as PDFs of any relevant class material. MASEKHET AVOT: Rabbi Bellino's untraditionally traditional approach to Masekhet Avot. Mondays and Thursdays, 7:00 PM.
FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM.
PARDES: Pardes is the Talmudic story of the search for mystical revelation. We will explore these Talmudic tales, mystical literature (Hekhalot) and other narratives of Divine encounters. Tuesdays, 8:00 PM.
