Purim

Kid's Pre-Purim Party - There will be a party for the Kommunity Kinder on Sunday, March 5th at 10:30 AM. Register here.

Purim begins this Monday, March 6th. We plan to gather that night for Maariv at 6:15 PM and then read the Megillah at 6:30 PM. Following the Megillah there will be a celebration in our Social Hall.

On Tuesday AM we will convene an 8:00 AM Shacharit which will be followed by the Megillah at 8:30 AM.

Sponsorship - The Committee for Purim Chaos is actively plotting various chaotic activities that require some financial support as well as assistance in setting up. For more information and/or to sponsor something, please click to our Purim Chaos page.

Purim Charity - Matanot L'Evyonim (gifts to the poor) is arguably the most important mitzvah of Purim. In the course of our own joy, we make it our duty to share with others, thus amplifying the spirit of unity that we read about in the Megillah, and extending the divine generosity shown to our people. In the spirit of modern Religious Humanism, we extend this kindness to both our Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors. This Purim we will again partner with Rabbi Zvi Romm, the Masbia Soup Kitchen Network, and Knock Knock Give a Sock, in providing gifts to those in our neighborhood who truly need our assistance. You may make a donation here or Venmo us @sixthstreetsynagogue (be sure to specify Purim Charity!). Tot Shabbat continues THIS Shabbat in the Beit Midrash from 10:15-11:00 and is followed by the Kommunity Kinder Kiddush Klub. Our program aims to inspire and entertain children ages zero to six. Expect Shabbat songs, games, and all the cuteness.

New Class! Rabbi Bellino's new class on Psalms continues this week and focuses upon traditional Jewish commentaries as well as modern academic scholarship. It meets on Tuesday evenings  at 6:30 PM on Zoom.

We are especially proud of our friends of Knock Knock Give a Sock who organized last Sunday's "SuperSoul Party" in collaboration with Meir Kay. The event invited our neighbors experiencing homelessness to come watch and celebrate the Super Bowl.

The next KKGS event a "Meet Your Neighbors Dinner" will be held on February 28th at 7PM. This dinner will bring together our community with 25 of our neighbors living in local homeless shelters. This dinner has been sponsored in memory of Henry Zilberman. For tickets click here.

• We are planning a kids' party on Sunday morning, March 5th.
• Megillah reading will be at 6:30 PM on Monday March 6th, and then at 8:30 AM the following morning.

Classes

Our weekday classes are being held on Zoom. For those of you who do not know, Zoom is a remote conferencing service that facilitates meetings online, by video and by phone. A useful instructional video may be found here. We strongly encourage you to download the free app to your phones and/or computers and then click the meeting links that we provide. If you do not have the technology to participate over the Internet, you may simply dial in. We will provide the links and numbers in a separate email as well as PDFs of any relevant class material. A Reasonable Reading of Psalms: Traditional commentaries and modern scholarship are used to make sense of this ancient text. Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 PM.  (Will meet next on February 21st).

FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM. (Will meet this Wednesday night).
