Foundations of Rosh Hashana Class Tonight!

08/23/2017 02:07:00 PM

Aug23

Foundations of Theology only will meet tonight, Wednesday, August 23rd.

7:00 PM - Foundations of Rosh Hashana

Book of Remembrance 5778

08/21/2017 06:54:30 PM

Aug21

The High Holy Day season is a time of repentance and atonement, contemplation and prayer. One of the strongest emotional moments that we experience this period, and especially on Yom Kippur, is the recalling of the memory of those loved ones who have meant so much to us and have gone on to eternal life.

To enhance the Yizkor Service, our synagogue will again assemble our own Book of Remembrance. This is an opportunity for us all to remember those people (relatives, friends, teachers, etc.) who greatly impacted our lives. To view last year's book, click here.

The booklet will contain:

1. The complete Yizkor Service and assorted readings and psalms
2. Your sponsored pages, half-pages, quarter pages and/or entry listings of those that you chose to honor and remember
3. A message from Rabbi Bellino

We urge all our members and friends to take part in our Book of Remembrance.

The final date of submission for all entries must be no later than September 17, 2017.

Please submit (English/Hebrew) names, relation, and yahretzeit dates. For full, half and quarter page entries, please consider adding a brief statement.

FULL PAGE…………………$180
HALF PAGE…………………$ 108
QUARTER PAGE……………$ 54
LISTING (EACH ENTRY)……$ 10

If you wish to make the same dedication as last year, please let us know.

Please send all entries and any questions to info@sixthstreetsynagogue.org

We thank you in advance for your participation in this meaningful project.

News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism, at home, in Israel, and abroad. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Ally Feder & Garrett Wittels on their recent engagement.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Eric Silverberg on his Aufruf, which he celebrated in our synagogue on Thursday, and on his upcoming wedding to Jordana Urman.

Rosh Hashana is only five weeks away, and so we ask that you renew your commitment to our synagogue in the form of Membership. Membership dues go a long way in making possible all of our synagogue's accomplishments. Won't you please share in our great legacy and help us continue our impressive revitalization?

Family membership includes two free seats. Individual membership includes one free seat. Additional seats for members are $125 and all seats for non-members are $250.

We are grateful to the many of you who have already paid their membership dues. To make a payment, please go to the donation page on our website, or send a check to the synagogue office. To discuss membership or any special seating needs that you may have, please call the office (212-473-3665) or e-mail us at info@sixthstreetsynagogue.org. We plan to provide childcare, so please indicate how many children and on which days they will be joining us.

There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

Individual $500
Associate $300
Student $150

We are happy to announce the introduction of Life Event cards: When you make a donation to the synagogue in memory of someone, or in celebration of someone's Simcha or lifecycle event, the synagogue will send a card to the family or individual notifying them of your donation. Please contact the synagogue office for more information.

Help us hire the perfect youth leader to run a Bi-weekly (every other) Shabbat morning program for children ages 2-5. This is a paid position; experience with children/education is a plus. This is a unique leadership opportunity to create, develop, and maintain a children's program through working with community leadership. Please email us any recommendations.

Please continue to assist our weekday morning Minyan. Consider increasing your commitment to community and synagogue by attending, especially while many of us congregants are away for the summer..

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or to co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbat Shabeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. Dear friends,

With the summer approaching, it is once again time for us to encourage synagogue membership; to ask that you please formalize and renew your annual commitments.

This has been a remarkable year. Together, we have experienced a growing community, delicious kiddushes, meaningful services, insightful classes, festive parties, engaging children’s programming, and respected and inspiring speakers. We have made several essential repairs, as well as aesthetic improvements, to our 170 year old building. We are most grateful to the many of you who stepped up to join our leadership, who attended our services, contributed financially, strengthened our community through your presence, and made our synagogue a true center of thoughtful Orthodox Judaism.

Membership dues go a long way in making all of this possible. Won’t you please share in our great legacy and help us continue this impressive revitalization? There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

Level Before June 26 After June 26
Family $900 $800
Individual $500 $450
Associate $300 $300
Student $150 $150

Should you prefer, membership payments may be made in installments. This is easily set up through our website (sixthstreetsynagogue.org). Payment may be made on the site, or by mailing a check to 325 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10003). Should you have any questions, please contact our treasurer, Alan Schwartz, or our Rabbi.

We invite all members in good standing to attend our annual membership meeting and election of officers, which will be held in the synagogue on June 26th, 2017.

We thank you for being a part of our great success,

News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism, at home, in Israel, and abroad. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Rhonda & David Malkin upon the birth of a son, as well as to Annie and Tali Malkin on the birth of their brother.

We wish a Mazal Tov To Avi Sosa & Jennifer Hudes upon their engagement.

Shavuot was a great success. We thank the very many of you who joined us for our meals, Torah study and services. We are most grateful to:

  • Our dinner sponsors: Sasson Abada, Natali & Elan Dobbs, Alan Schwartz, and Tali Zilberman & David Neuhaus (who sponsored in Memory of Dr. Alan Mintz)
  • The Lebewohl family for providing the cheese and potato blintzes
  • The Gasman family for providing the Ben & Jerry's ice cream
  • Ellen R. Cherrick for sponsoring the beautiful Shavuot flowers (in memory of her parents Udy (Katz) & William Cherrick
  • The women organized and attended the women's reading of Megillat Rut (in honor of the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg)
  • Rabbi Joe Wolfson for his insightful and entertaining Shavuot presentation.

We are expanding our library and are looking for sponsors to help us buy volumes of the new Artscroll Midrash Rabbah. Sponsorships are $54 a volume. If you are interested, please contact the synagogue office or Rabbi Bellino. Be sure to include your dedication information.

Consider increasing your commitment to community and synagogue by attending.

The next available Kiddush for sponsorship is June 24th (Korach).
