We wish a Mazal Tov to Victor Bellino, Ellen Cherrick, Henry Frank, and Myrna Beth Hurwitz, upon their completion of the entire Tanakh, following Rabbi Bellino's Tanakh Yomi program. They followed the Torah reading every Shabbat, and read approximately 3 chapters of Prophets/Writings every weekday. The schedule will begin again immediately following Simchat Torah.
Rosh Hashana is less than a week away, and so we ask that you renew your commitment to our synagogue in the form of Membership. Family membership includes two free seats. Individual membership includes one free seat. Additional seats for members are $125 and all seats for non-members are $250.

We plan to provide childcare, so please indicate how many children and on which days they will be joining us.

To enhance the Yizkor Service, our synagogue will again assemble our own Book of Remembrance. This is an opportunity for us all to remember those people (relatives, friends, teachers, etc.) who greatly impacted our lives. The booklet will contain the complete Yizkor Service and assorted readings and psalms, your sponsored pages, half-pages, quarter pages and/or entry listings of those that you chose to honor and remember, and a message from Rabbi Bellino.

Please continue to assist our weekday morning Minyan. Consider increasing your commitment to community and synagogue by attending, especially as we prepare for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Selichot will begin each morning at 6:00 AM.
Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or to co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbat Shabeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. The next available Kiddush for sponsorship is November 4th (Shabbat Vayeira).

FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM. Will not meet this week.
CANTILLATION FOR WOMEN: A seminar for women on Torah Cantillation, focusing on reading precision as well as the traditional Ashkenazic tropes used in ritual chanting.

Downtown Community
On Sunday Night, the Stanton Street Shul will host an uplifting evening, of study, song, and prayer in preparation for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur with one of the greatest Jewish educators and moral voices of our time - Rabbi Avi Weiss.Following the program, at 10:00 PM, there will be a musical Slichot service led by Rabbi Bellino.

Shiffy Friedman graduated from Nishmat’s Miriam Glaubach Center’s U.S. Yoatzot Halacha Fellows Program in 2015. She has been counseling women in the area of women's health and halacha, both through her role as Yoetzet Halacha in Westchester County and through teaching brides and couples before marriage. Shiffy has taught at SAR Academy and currently teaches at Ma'ayanot Yeshiva High School. She received her B.A. in Judaic studies from Stern College and a dual M.A. in Education and Jewish Studies from New York University. Prior to that, she spent a year studying in Israel at the Stella K. Abraham Beit Midrash for Women in Migdal Oz. She and her husband, Rabbi Noam Friedman, live with their two children, Avital and Adir, in Morningside Heights, where they serve as the OU-JLIC couple at Columbia/Barnard Hillel. They look forward to getting to know members of the broader Manhattan community.
