News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism, at home, in Israel, and abroad. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to the Lebewohl Family upon the birth of Emily Rachel (אסתר רחל), born to Cara & Josh Lebewohl.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Michelle Zigelman & Ari Rosenblum upon the birth of Ava Zigi (אביה פריידא).

The Annual Dinner was a great success! We are very grateful to Shelly & Elie Yudewitz, Suzanne Dance & Andrew ObinVivian Klaus, Joan Nachmani, Tali Zilberman & David Neuhaus, and Alan Schwartz, for all their work in planning the annual dinner. We also thank the more than 150 people in attendance and the nearly 200 people overall whose financial contributions helped us raise well over $100K for our synagogue.

Torah Readers: We are looking for men who can prepare to read at Shabbat Mincha (and possibly at Shacharit during the week as well) throughout the year. A schedule of readers is being maintained. If you can commit to any dates, please contact Rabbi Bellino. We are grateful to Jonathan Falik who will read this week. The next available Mincha leining is on May 5th (the afternoon reading is Behar). We are looking for women to prepare aliyot for a Women’s Torah Reading  in the near future. Rabbi Bellino is happy to help anyone learn how to prepare a reading.

Please continue to assist our weekday morning Minyan. Consider increasing your commitment to community and synagogue by attending.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or to co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbat Shabeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. The next available Shabbat Kiddush for sponsorship is May 5th (Emor / Cinco de Mayo).

Events

May 2nd - Lager Ba'Omer 5778
Beer fest + Lag BaOmer = Lager BaOmer at Sixth Street Synagogue. The fifth annual event will be a fun time for all craft beer enthusiasts and students of Beer Yochai. Please click here for more information or to let us know that you will attend.

May 6th - Feral Hasids Photo Exhibit
Feral Hasids is a story in photographs of religious New Yorkers escaping captivity from modern shtetl life. The men and women photographed are fervently pious, yet unashamed and feral. Aaron Moeller used Gonzo journalistic tactics to capture their experiences on camera, traveling to music festivals, forests, and rural landscapes around Upstate New York, sensitively placing himself in each episode to help birth a new sense of ritual, a new American pastime. Click here for more info and to register.

May 12th - Mothers' Day Kiddush
It's Sixth Street's Annual Mothers' Day Kiddush! For $54 you can be named as a contributor. The names of your daughters, mothers, grandmothers, teachers, or virtually anyone you choose, will be listed. Click here to register.

We wish a Mazel Tov to Dr. Ellie & David Hammer on the birth, Brit, and naming of their son, Charles Zachary (כלב זכריה).

We've out-done ourselves. Purim services and parties were very well attended (more than 700 people passed through our doors over the course of the night) and our Matanot L'Evyonim campaign raised over $11,000 for those in need. For photo evidence of the evening, please go to our Facebook page.

NEXT WEEK! Meet Your Neighbors Dinner

02/23/2018 01:32:28 PM

Feb23

Next Friday night, on Shabbat Ki Tissa, March 2nd, we will host a Meet Your Neighbors Shabbat Dinner, which will bring together our Jewish community with people who are experiencing homelessness. Through dinner, song, and conversation, we will enjoy the unique opportunity to meet our neighbors!

Meet Your Neighbors dinners are a facet of the unique vision of our friend Adina Licthman, founder of Knock Knock Give a Sock, an organization dedicated to collecting socks for those in need and committed to ending the stigma surrounding homelessness.

This dinner will be held in memory of Henry Zilberman ז"ל, beloved father of Tali Zilberman. Henry tried to get to know and welcome each and every person, regardless of their circumstances; and so, this is a fitting tribute.

Registration includes dinner for you and for a neighbor from a local shelter.

Torah Readers: We are looking for men who can prepare to read at Shabbat Mincha (and possibly at Shacharit during the week as well) throughout the year. A schedule of readers is being maintained. If you can commit to any dates, please contact Rabbi Bellino. We are grateful to Yosef Baruh who will read this week. The next available Mincha leining is on March 17th  (the afternoon reading is Tzav). We are looking for women to prepare aliyot for a Women’s Torah Reading  in the near future. Feb16

In two weeks, on Shabbat Ki Tissa, Friday March 2nd, we will host a Meet Your Neighbors Shabbat Dinner which will bring together our Jewish community with people who are experiencing homelessness.

News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism, at home, in Israel, and abroad. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We are grateful to Farmer Yosef Gillers, founder of GrowTorah, for his interactive, educational, and fun Tu B'Shevat program this past Monday night.

2017 Tax Letter: You may have received a tax letter from us this week listing all of your 2017 tax-deductible contributions to the synagogue. If you have any questions, or feel that some contributions were not listed, please contact us at 212-473-3665, or email us.

Purim Chaos Volunteers: Purim is in 4 weeks and there's a lot of schlepping, decorating, supervising, beer selecting, and cleaning to be done. Purim Chaos doesn't happen by itself. Please let us know if you can help.

Torah Readers: We are looking for men who can prepare to read at Shabbat Mincha (and possibly at Shacharit during the week as well) throughout the year. A schedule of readers is being maintained. If you can commit to any dates, please contact Rabbi Bellino. We are grateful to Elie Yudewitz who will read this week. The next available Mincha leining is on March 17th  (the afternoon reading is Tzav). We are looking for women to prepare aliyot for a Women’s Torah Reading  in the near future. Rabbi Bellino is happy to help anyone learn how to read Torah to prepare a reading.

The next available Kiddush for sponsorship is March 17th (Vayiqra).
