Dear Friends,
One of the features that makes our Shul feel like home is its kitchen. Through kiddushes, parties and shared simchas, we are able to welcome people into our space and create community. Several of us have decided to begin using our kitchen to cook monthly meals for the residents of Trinity Place Shelter, the city's only long-term supportive housing open for LGBT identifying homeless youth. Indeed, 40% of the over 7000 youth living on the streets of New York identify as LGBT, having literally fled from unsafe homes or been kicked out just because of who they are.
Trinity Place provides ten young people with long term housing where they can be fully accepted, receive health care and job placement services and make the transition against all odds to successful and meaningful adulthood. You can read more about their amazing work at www.trinityplaceshelter.org
Part of their model is creating a home-like atmosphere where the teens can feel loved and supportive. They rely on community partners like us to cook dinner for the residents each night.
This Tuesday night join us in shul at 7:00 PM for an evening of chessed, cooking and of course some beer. Together we will show some Jewish motherly love and cook them way too much food.
If you have any questions or to RSVP contact me or Rabbi Bellino.
We plan to do this monthly. If you wish to financially support these efforts, make a payment to Rabbi's Discretionary Fund.
Best,
Tali Zilberman Neuhaus
