Dear Friends:
Purim, now three weeks away, is being planned by the Committee for Purim Dysfunction. Allow me to take this opportunity to provide you with some sense of the schedule as well as various volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.
Theme: The theme for this Purim is The 90s. Dress as your favorite 90s politician, TV personality, film character, athlete, or musician. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so... scared.
Purim Night: On March 23rd, we will meet for Mincha at 6:50 PM, and begin Maariv at 7:30 PM. We are grateful to Mendel (Jenner) Kaplan who will read the Megillah. Following the reading we will descend to our social hall (The Max? Peach Pit After Dark?) for our Purim Party. Expect a full bar, Finback Beer, and all sorts of snacks. At some point we will be joined by our friends from the University of Purim (non-accredited and in no way associated with Trump University) as well as the band Mutty. The party will end at some point before morning services.
Purim Day: On March 24th, we will reconvene for Shacharit at 7:30 AM, followed by the Megillah which will be read by our friend, David Waxman. The Megillah will start at approximately 8:00 AM.
Mishloach Manot: Our Mishloach Manot initiative seeks to augment our continued sense of community, to deliciously enhance Purim revelry, and to serve as a significant fundraising opportunity for our synagogue.
Matanot LaEvyonim: Gifts to the poor, is arguably the most important Mitzvah of Purim. This year we are proud to partner with Rabbi Joe Wolfson of JLIC-NYU and the NYU communty in providing gifts to those in the region who truly need our assistance. Please consider generously donating to Rabbi Bellino's Discretionary Fund on the website. Be sure to specify that this donation is for Purim Charity.
Your help: There's a lot of schlepping, decorating, supervising, drink mixing, and cleaning to be done. We need help assembling Mishloach Manot. We are in need of bar, beer, and snack sponsors. Also, if you happen to see our neighbor FRIEND, David Schwimmer, on 6th Street, please tell him that our party is in his honor and that he may come dressed as either Ross Geller or Rob Kardashian z"l.
Gut Purim!
Blessings, Gavriel
