News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with Israel and all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We are proud to join more than 100 other shuls this Shabbat in supporting the work of Yesh Tikva, an organization that works to provide emotional and practical care to those struggling with infertility. Resources include support groups, online support forums, platforms for sharing personal stories, and events. For more information click here.

We offer blessing of condolences to the Taub family upon the passing of Israel Taub. Shiva is being held at 43A West 13th Street, 4th floor, between 5th and 6th Avenues. (Call 602-820-0039 if there is no answer to the bell.) Shiva hours: Friday 4/8 7:30 AM -Noon & 2-5 PM; Saturday night; 9:00-11:00 PM; Sunday 4/10 thru Tuesday 4/12 7:30 am - Noon and 2-9pm. There will be a daily Shacharit at 7:30 AM and Mincha/Maariv at 7:15 PM.

We are now on Summer Schedule. Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 7:00 PM (with the exception of Pesach) until September 16. Join us for services and be rewarded with food, drink, song and words of Torah.

Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM as Rabbi Bellino teaches his Pesach Preparation Made Simple. He promises to save you time and make the Passover season much more pleasant.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. The next available kiddush for sponsorship is May 7th.

Wednesday Night classes will meet again this Wednesday, April 13.

FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM. This week: Passover.

THOUGHT OF NACHMANIDES: Will resume after Passover.

JEWISH POETIC LITURGY: Rabbi Bellino will present ancient, medieval, and early-modern religious poetry. Special attention will be paid the Biblibal, Talmudic, Midrashic, and often Kabbalist references contained therein. Shabbat, Seudah Shelishit. This week: Yedid Nefesh.

Events

Join us for the third and final installment of One People: A Film Series in Three Parts as we view "The Mystery of San Nicandro" on Monday, April 11 at 7:30 PM. A group of Italian Roman Catholics in a small village underwent a mass conversion to Judaism in Fascist Italy, observing Jewish practices for 20 years, and emigrated to Israel in 1949. After years of believing in another faith how do ordinary people give themselves over to a new way of worshiping? How did their mentor, a crippled cobbler from San Nicandro, change the lives of hundreds of people?
Pizza and beer will be served prior to the screening at 7:00 PM. RSVP by Friday, April 8.

Shabbat HaGadol Drasha: Rabbi Bellino will deliver his tenth sermon for Shabbat HaGadol on Saturday, April 16th, at 6:40 PM. This year's topic: The History, Halacha, and Symbolism of the Seder Plate.

JOMIX: Join us on May 20th at 7:00 PM for a lecture and slide show as Joel Silverstein presents the way Jewish artists use the comics medium as a mean to express their own Jewish identity and cultural experience. He will also examine the complex relationship of art, identity and culture within the Jewish community at large. He will touch on traditional genres such as superhero, political satire, romance, horror, science fiction and confessionals through a Jewish lens. We will serve pizza and beer at 7:00 PM and the presentation will begin at 7:30 PM. RSVP by May 20th.

Save the Date: Lager BaOmer on the evening of May 25th. This event will be a great time for all craft beer enthusiasts and students of Beer Yochai.
