February 22: "Punk Jews"
Defying norms and expressing their Jewish identities in unconventional ways Hassidic punk rockers, Yiddish street performers, African-American Jewish activists and more, "Punk Jews" explores an emerging movement of provocateurs and committed Jews who are asking, each in his or her own way, what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century. Q&A with Yitzchak Schonfeld, "disorganizer" of Chulent.
March 28: "Trembling Before G-d"
"Trembling Before G-d" is an unprecedented feature documentary that is built around intimately told personal stories of gay and lesbian Hasidic and Orthodox Jews who face a profound dilemma: how to reconcile their passionate love of Judaism and the Divine with the drastic biblical prohibitions that forbid homosexuality. Q&A with Shlomo Ashkinazy, who is featured in the film.
April 11: "The Mystery of San Nicandro"
A group of Italian Roman Catholics in a small village underwent a mass conversion to Judaism in Fascist Italy, observing Jewish practices for 20 years, and emigrated to Israel in 1949. After years of believing in another faith how do ordinary people give themselves over to a new way of worshiping? How did their mentor, a crippled cobbler from San Nicandro, change the lives of hundreds of people? Q&A with Rabbi Gavriel Bellino.
