Purim is in less than 3 Weeks! Join us on March 9th, with Maariv/Megillah Reading at 7:00 PM, immediately followed by our Purim Party. We on Sixth Street do Purim really well, but to do so requires planning. Please consider helping us with our Purim Chaos, as well as participating in our Purim Charity Campaign.
- Purim Chaos: The Committee for Purim Chaos is actively plotting various chaotic activities, but needs some financial support as well as assistance in setting up. For more information and/or to sponsor something, please visit our Purim Chaos page.
- Purim Charity: Matanot L'evyonim is arguably the most important Mitzvah of Purim. This year, we are again proud to partner with Rabbi Zvi Romm of the Bialystoker Synagogue, Rabbi Joe Wolfson of JLIC-NYU and the NYU community, the Masbia Soup Kitchen Network, as well as Knock Knock Give a Sock, in providing gifts to those in the region who truly need our assistance. Sixth Street Parents Committee: Our Sixth Street parents committee is planning a number of events for our youngest members and the larger community, and we want you to know about them! The Sixth Street Parents Google group is where events are publicized, meetings are called, and babysitters' contacts are shared. If you'd like to be added to the group, please email Alan Feder or Julia Salant.
Torah Readers: We are looking for men who can prepare to read at Shabbat Mincha (and possibly at Shacharit during the week as well) throughout the year. A schedule of readers is being maintained. If you can commit to any dates, please contact Rabbi Bellino. We are also looking for women to prepare aliyot for a Women’s Torah Reading in the near future. Rabbi Bellino is happy to help anyone learn how to prepare a reading.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or to co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbat Shabeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. Jewish Arts Salon Artists Beit Midrash "PARDES: Encountering the Divine" - 8 Tuesdays, February 4 though March 31, 7-9 PM: Pardes is the Talmudic story of the search for mystical revelation. This class explores these Talmudic tales, mystical literature (Heikhalot) and other narratives of Divine encounters. Each participant will have the opportunity to react personally to the text, working in the art form of their choice, and to offer and receive responses to their work. Shabbat Zachor (March 6-7) - Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Aaron Koller: On the Shabbat before Purim, we will welcome Dr. Aaron Koller as our Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence. Dr. Koller has recently published a book on Esther and is a personable and fascinating speaker. He's even a bit controversial. Kommunity Kinderlach Pre-Purim Party - March 8th: Join the Kommunity Kinderlach for the annual Children's pre-Purim Party on Sunday, March 8, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Magician, games, make your own rainbow Hamantashen, Holiday sing-along with Rabbi Bellino. Please register on the event page.
