We would like to thank everyone who came this past Tuesday to our panel discussion about Confronting Sexual Abuse in the Orthodox Community. We are especially grateful to our presenters, David Cheifetz, Tamara Schoor and Dr. Michael Salamon. The presentations and the Q & A that followed were moving, thought-provoking and brutally honest.
We ask that you please assist our weekday morning Minyan which has been struggling lately due to various schedule changes, extended vacations, illnesses, and some bad luck. Won't you please consider increasing your commitment to community and synagogue by attending? With your help, our Minyan meets at 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7:30 AM on Sundays.
Rosh Hashana is two weeks away. We anticipate a record number attending our beautiful High Holy Day services this year, so please reserve your seats as soon as possible. We will make every effort to preserve your customary seats. Additional seats for members are $125 and all seats for non-members are $250. To make a payment, please send a check or make a donation on our website. To discuss any special seating needs or requests that you may have, please call the office (212-473-3665) or e-mail us. We plan to provide childcare, so please indicate how many children and on which days they will join us.
Please renew your commitment to our synagogue in the form of Membership. Membership dues go a long way in facilitating our synagogue's many improvements and accomplishments. There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

To enhance the Yizkor Service, our synagogue will again assemble our own Book of Remembrance. This is an opportunity for us all to remember those people (relatives, friends, teachers, etc.) who greatly impacted our lives. The booklet will contain the complete Yizkor Service and assorted readings and psalms, your sponsored pages, half-pages, quarter pages and/or entry listings of those that you chose to honor and remember, and a message from Rabbi Bellino.

Classes
FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM.
AVOT D'RABBI NATAN: Rabbi Bellino will teach Avot d'Rabbi Natan for the duration of the summer. Shabbat afternoons, 1 hour before Mincha.
BLESSINGS: Miriam Kaplan has begun a class on Berachot, the extraordinary practice of sourcing pleasures and experience in the Divine. Shabbat, following Kiddush.
JEWISH POETIC LITURGY: Rabbi Bellino will present ancient, medieval, and early-modern religious poetry. Special attention will be paid the Biblibal, Talmudic, Midrashic, and often Kabbalist references contained therein. Shabbat, Seudah Shelishit.
Events
This Monday, September 19th, we will welcome Tamara Pons Allon, who will speak to us about The Challenges of a 21st Century Pioneer in the Negev: A Modern Take on Making the Desert Bloom. Tamara moved from Tel Aviv to a farm in the Arava region of the Negev. She will speak about living in the Negev, her life as a pioneer woman in Israel, and how she and the JNF are making the Negev habitable for the next generation of Israel's residents.
Selichot begin next Saturday night. September 24th. Rabbi Bellino will lead us in Musical Selichot at 10:00 PM. Following Selichot, we will hold a Selichot Concert in collaboration with NYU's Bronfman Center, that will feature Yehudah Katz. (Yehudah Katz is an American-born Israeli singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, and activist. He first rose to fame as the lead singer of seminal Jewish rock band Reva L'Sheva. He is also the founder of the non-profit organization Artists and Musicians for Israel.)
Chessed on Sixth Street - Several of us have begun to utilize the Synagogue kitchen to prepare meals for the Trinity Place Shelter. The shelter's mission is to help LGBTQ youth and young adults in New York City to safely transition out of the shelter system and grow into independent, positive, and productive adults. To financially support our efforts, please consider donating to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund (Be sure to specify Shelter Meals in the note). The next meal will be prepared in September. If you are interested in cooking, schlepping, or starting your own Chessed initiative, please contact Rabbi Bellino or Tali Zilberman.
