News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with Israel and all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Rachel Rochlin & Raanan Laufer on their upcoming wedding. We welcome all their friends and family who are here to celebrate with them.

This Shabbat is Shabbat HaGadol. Please join us for the Drasha on Shabbat afternoon at 6:40 PM (immediately following Mincha at 6:20 PM). Rabbi Bellino will speak on The History, Halacha, and Symbolism of the Seder Plate. Remember that there will be no Seudah Shelishit served.

Rabbi Bellino is happy to sell your Chametz for you. Please do so here.

We are now on Summer Schedule. Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 7:00 PM (with the exception of Pesach) until September 16th. Join us for services and be rewarded with food, drink, song and words of Torah.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. The next available kiddush for sponsorship is May 7th.

Classes

Wednesday Night classes will resume after Passover.

FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM.

THOUGHT OF NACHMANIDES: A weekly class focusing on the thought of Rabbi Moses ben Nachman. Rabbi Bellino will teach the more essential commentaries on that week’s parsha and will contextualize the Ramban’s remarks within the greater contexts of parshanut and philosophy. Wednesdays 8:00-9:15 PM

MIRIAM KAPLAN ON THE PRAYERS OF DAVID, SOLOMON, DANIEL, EZRA, and NEHEMIAH.  Shabbat, Following Kiddush.

JEWISH POETIC LITURGY: Rabbi Bellino will present ancient, medieval, and early-modern religious poetry. Special attention will be paid the Biblibal, Talmudic, Midrashic, and often Kabbalist references contained therein. Shabbat, Seudah Shelishit.

Events

JOMIX: Join us on May 20th at 7:00 PM for a lecture and slide show as Joel Silverstein presents the way Jewish artists use the comics medium as a mean to express their own Jewish identity and cultural experience. He will also examine the complex relationship of art, identity and culture within the Jewish community at large. He will touch on traditional genres such as superhero, political satire, romance, horror, science fiction and confessionals through a Jewish lens. We will serve pizza and beer at 7:00 PM and the presentation will begin at 7:30 PM. RSVP by May 20th.

Save the Date: Lager BaOmer on the evening of May 25th. This event will be a great time for all craft beer enthusiasts and students of Beer Yochai.
