Community News

We wish a Mazal Tov to the Liberman Family upon the marriage of Zoe to Leor Kweller.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Shahla & Barry Weiner and to the entire Weiner/Rabbai Family, on the birth, brit mila, and naming of their grandson Jagger (Lev Melekh), born to Ethel & Jonathan Weiner

This week begins Rabbi Bellino's class in Avot d'Rabbi Natan. This text is a commentary and elaboration on Pirkei Avot that was compiled during the Geonic Period. This late Midrash provides explanations of most of the aphorisms of Avot, as well as hagiographic on the lives of many of the sages quoted. Class meets on Shabbat, one hour before Mincha.

We thank all those who helped make Shavuot a great success. We are especially grateful to:

  • The Lebewohl Family for sponsoring and arranging the food for our delicious dinner and kiddushim.
  • Caroline Tell & Evan Gasman for providing us with the large supply of Ben & Jerry's ice-cream.
  • Ellen Cherrick for sponsoring the beautiful Shavuot flowers in memory of her parents.
  • Annie Watman and Cori Robinson for organizing the Women's Wine and Cheese Party.

We ask that you please remember to pay for your Shavuot Aliya and Yizkor commitments. You may do so here.

Now that Shavuot is over, we can fully devote our attention to our Annual Dinner. This year's Dinner will be held on Monday June 22nd, at The Brotherhood Synagogue. Our fundraising dinners are delicious, fun, and significant and successful efforts. Please RSVP here. Be sure to specify the number in your party and any dietary accommodations that you might require. If you cannot attend, please consider donating toward this effort. Our Synagogue is experiencing wondrous growth and renewed vitality. Join us as we celebrate our progress and help us secure financial support for continued success. Israel Awareness Committee: A new committee, co-chaired by Jeff Katz and Annie Watman, has been created to strengthen our synagogue's identification with the State of Israel's culture, people, challenges, and history. There will be a bi-monthly Israel Awareness Reading Group, meeting for the first time toward the end of this month. The first book will be "Menachem Begin: The Battle for Israel's Soul" by Daniel Gordis. To get involved, please email jeff.katz48@gmail.com.

We are proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad, an Orthodox rabbinic network, founded by Rabbis Sarna & Bellino, intended to advance the welfare and flourishing of the Downtown community. Check out the Va'ad on Facebook for more information.
