Our Annual Dinner will be held this Monday. This year we will honor our Rabbi, Gavriel Bellino, and celebrate his ten years of service. Rabbi Bellino, along with his wife Cori Robinson, has sustained and revitalized our synagogue as well as the Downtown Jewish Community. He and his family are among our most valuable assets and it is with great pleasure that we will recognize the efforts they have made and the successes we have all shared on their account. Our Children's Shabbat Program (Kommunity Kinderlach) will meet THIS Shabbat, Parashat Terumah and will be led by Rachel Kaminetzky. In March, the program will take place on March 4th, 18th and 25th, and in April, on April 1st and 29th. The program is geared toward children 2-5 years of age. Children younger than 2 are welcome to join but must be accompanied by a parent. It begins at 10:15 AM and continues until the end of services. For more information, please contact us.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or to co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbat Shabeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino. FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM.
SUFI JEWS: JUDAISM’S ENCOUNTER WITH ISLAMIC MYSTICISM: Approximately 400 years after the birth of Islam, some Jewish sages recommended Sufic ritual and thought. Rabbi Bellino will present the Medieval sages, Bahye Ibn Paquda and Abraham son of Maimonides, as well as Jewish-Sufic material from 16th Century Safed Pietism and Hassidut. Wednesdays 8:00-9:00 PM.
SHACHARIT: Miriam Kaplan will begin teaching a class on Shacharit, the daily morning prayer. Shabbat, following Kiddush.
THE BERDITCHIVER: Rabbi Bellino will present the Hasidic folklore and writings of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev. Shabbat, Seudah Shelishit.

March 11-12 - PURIM!!
Purim begins on Saturday night, March 11, as Shabbat concludes. Shabbat will end at 6:39 PM, and we will hold off on Maariv until 7:15 PM, with Megilla shortly thereafter. Immediately following our services, the entire congregation is invited to join us for our Purim Celebration. We look forward to our friends from the University of Purim joining us at approximately 10:00 PM. The party will end at some point before morning services.
The theme for Purim this year is a loving tribute to our own neighborhood, entitled "Lower East Side Disturbed." Come dressed as your favorite Lower East Side immigrant, rabbi, pickle, convict, landlord, artist, or victim! Or wear whatever costume you like. You do you. This is where individuality was born.
We will return on Sunday morning for Shacharit at 8:30 AM, and Megilla at 9:00 AM. There will be a Kids' Purim Party at 10:00 AM. Please RSVP here.
March 19 - Downtown Va’ad General Meeting with Rabbi Sacks

March 28 - Screening of the Documentary Film: 'Streit's: Matzo and the American Dream'
'Matzo and the American Dream' is a story of tradition, of resistance and resilience, and a celebration of the Streits family, whose commitment to their heritage and to their employees is inspiring proof that the family that bakes together, stays together. The director Michael Levine.will be on hand for a post-film discussion.
