News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with Israel and all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to the Klaus Family, especially to Arthur & Vivian Klaus, upon the marriage of their son Ryan to Marlowe Dayon on Thursday.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Sara Eisen & Matthew Levine upon their marriage this past Sunday.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Michelle Zigelman, upon her upcoming marriage to Arieh Rosenblum this Sunday.

This Shabbat we welcome all those who will be attending the Downtown Eshel Shabbaton. Eshel will be holding a dinner this evening (Registration required) as well as a Panel Discssion that will begin at 9:30 PM. The panel is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. The Shabbaton will conclude on 6th Street with Mincha at 7:00 PM and then a Seudah Shelishit that is open to all.

We are on Summer Schedule. Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 7:00 PM until September 16th. Join us for services and you shall be rewarded with food, drink, song, and words of Torah.

Join us for this Shabbat afternoons as Rabbi Bellino concludes the five chapters of Avot. Next week we will learn Perek Kinyan HaTorah. For source sheets and charts, click here.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue

and community. To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush,

a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino.

The next available kiddush for sponsorship is next week, July 9th.

Shavuot is quite soon. All sorts of Shavuot related activities have been planned including a Shavuot Tisch and a Women's Shavuot Tea.

Please register for our Annual Dinner.

Events

We are excited to be a host synagogue for this year’s Eshel Downtown Shabbaton on Shabbat Behukotai (June 3-4). Eshel’s mission is to create community and acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Jews and their families in Orthodox communities. Shabbat hospitality for visiting guests is appreciated.

  • There will be a Friday night dinner in shul starting at 8:15 (RSVP required) followed by a panel discussion with parents of LGBT children and Eshel Members.
  •
  • On Shabbat Afternoon at 7:00 PM, we will hold Mincha followed by a Seudah Shelishit featuring: A Historical Review of the Eshel Story.
  •

We very much look forward to Shabbat Nasso (June 17-18) when we will welcome Rav Judah Mischel as our Shabbat Scholar. Reb Judah is the Program and Personnel Director of HASC, a Jewish camp for children with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Reb Judah will speak throughout Shabbat.

Downtown Community

We are thrilled that there are new Kosher options in our neighborhood.

Mocha Burger at 496 Laguardia Place.

The Promenade Sports Bar, 344 Third Avenue, is now completely Kosher. (Not just sushi). Please check them out ASAP.

The Falafel Shop at 127 Rivington Street (between Norfolk & Essex).

We are proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad, an Orthodox rabbinic network, founded by Rabbis Sarna & Bellino, intended to advance the welfare and flourishing of the Downtown community. Check out the Va'ad on Facebook for more information.
