Community News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with Israel and all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism. We pray for safety, healing, and peace. Please join us at all of our services for our recitations of additional Psalms.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Alexia & Harris Marks upon the Brit Milah and naming of their son, Elijah Jonah (אליה יונה).

We wish a Mazal Tov to Caila Gordon-Koster & Eric Moed on their engagement.

We are grateful to Nicole Blau who has offered to take charge of Kiddush duties this week. Please do everything you can to assist her and the rest of our Kiddush Krew.

Friday night services are at 5:05 PM. Please help us to ensure that we begin on time. Expect to be rewarded with snacks, drinks, as well as some Torah study and song.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. Next Shabbat's Kiddush is available! To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino.

We are looking for additional support staff. Do you know someone with strong computer and organizational skills who can work 15-20 hours a week? Contact info@sixthstreetsynagogue.org.

Classes

Wednesday Night classes will resume Wednesday, February 17th.

FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM: A sensitive and sophisticated introduction to Judaism, intended for beginners, and focusing on many of the ritual, legal, linguistic, and philosophical basics of our faith. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM.

THOUGHT OF NACHMANIDES: A weekly class focusing on the thought of Rabbi Moses ben Nachman. Rabbi Bellino will teach the more essential commentaries on that week’s parsha and will contextualize the Ramban’s remarks within the greater contexts of parshanut and philosophy.

MIRIAM KAPLAN ON THE PRAYERS OF DAVID, SOLOMON, DANIEL, EZRA, and NEHEMIAH.  Shabbat, Following Kiddush.

JEWISH POETIC LITURGY: Rabbi Bellino will present ancient, medieval, and early-modern religious poetry. Special attention will be paid the Biblibal, Talmudic, Midrashic, and often Kabbalist references contained therein. Shabbat, Seudah Shelishit.

We like to think we're different. Everyone from the traditionally Orthodox to the occasionally observant feels at home here - 365 days a year. We hope you do too.
