Community News

We wish a Mazal Tov to Phoebe & Richard McBee upon the engagement of their daughter Julia to Feliks Finkel.

We wish a Refua Shelaima to our friend, Murray Nussbaum, husband of Risa Gerstein. Please keep Murray -- Moshe ben Rachel -- in your prayers.

Rabbi Bellino's class in Avot d'Rabbi Natan continues this week. This text is a commentary and elaboration on Pirkei Avot that was compiled during the Geonic Period. This late Midrash provides explanations of most of the aphorisms of Avot, as well as hagiography on the lives of many of the sages quoted. Class meets on Shabbat, one hour before Mincha. All source sheets (including Rabbi Bellino's notes) may be downloaded here.

Book of Remembrance: To enhance the Yizkor Service, our synagogue will assemble our own Book of Remembrance. This is an opportunity for us all to remember those people (relatives, friends, teachers, etc.) who greatly impacted our lives. We urge all our members and friends to take part. The final date of submission for all entries must be no later than August 26, 2015. Find more information on the website and email info@sixthstreetsynagogue.org all entries and questions.

We are thrilled that there are new Kosher options in our neighborhood.

Mocha Burger at 496 Laguardia Place.

Prime Sushi at the Promenade Sports Bar, 344 Third Avenue.

Please support all of our local Kosher restaurants.

We are proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad, an Orthodox rabbinic network, founded by Rabbis Sarna & Bellino, intended to advance the welfare and flourishing of the Downtown community. Check out the Va'ad on Facebook for more information.

Classes

Foundations will meet Wednesday, August 5th at 6:30 PM for Hebrew Reading and continue at 7:00 PM.

Feedback

We encourage your participation and insight. Feedback to Elie Yudewitz, Rabbi Bellino or the Shul Office would be most appreciated. Please contact us with any suggestions and/or concerns, or most importantly, to volunteer. You can also make suggestions here.
