Welcome to the Sixth Street Community Synagogue!

We're a thriving, diverse, and welcoming Modern Orthodox Jewish community in the heart of the East Village. An 85 year old synagogue in a 177 year old building.

We like to think we're different. Everyone from the occasionally observant to the traditionally Orthodox feels at home here. We hope you do too.

Our community reflects the character of lower Manhattan -- intelligent, diverse, open, and fun -- while still deeply committed to values of Torah, Chesed and Halakhah.

We'd love to have you join us for a Shabbat, a holiday, or just a beer.

Our weekday classes are currently being held on Zoom.

As the Story Goes: An Evening in Yiddishland

    Thursday, Nov 6th 7:00p
Join us for Aa celebration of As the Story Goes: Funny, Strange, and Serious Stories of Yiddishland’s Jews compiled by Mordekhai Lipson, newly translated and edited by Jonathan Boyarin and Jonah Sampson Boyarin. The evening will feature the father-and-son translators in conversation about the art of preserving Yiddish humor, memory, and voice for a new generation. Together, they’ll explore how these vivid tales capture the spirit of a vanished world and the lives that continue to echo from it. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
