Purim 5786

Mar1

This year's Purim celebration is complicated. We will assemble as a community, hear the Megillah, share Mishloach Manot, all while our brothers and sisters in Israel are celebrating under the shadow of sirens, rushing to bomb shelters and holding fast to faith in moments of fear. Purim teaches that salvation can unfold even when God’s presence seems hidden, and that courage, unity, and resilience can transform dread into deliverance. We maintain that our celebration is not an escape from their reality, but an affirmation of shared destiny. We rejoice in solidarity, pray for their safety, and affirm that the same hope that sustained Esther and Mordechai sustains the Jewish people in every generation.

Dear Friends Yidden,

Purim begins on Monday March 2nd. so your favorite Fauxbavitchers are hard at work planning this year's observance and chaos.

We will gather for Maariv at 6:30 PM, hear from Modi and Rabbi Bellino, then read the Megillah. Following the Megillah there will be a celebration fabrengen in our Social Hall.

On Tuesday morning, March 3rd, we will convene an 8:00 AM Shacharit which will be followed by the Megillah at 8:30 AM.

Purim Charity - Matanot L'Evyonim (gifts to the poor) is arguably the most important mitzvah of Purim. In the course of our own joy, we make it our duty to share with others, thus amplifying the spirit of unity that we read about in the Megillah, and extending the divine generosity shown to our people. In the spirit of modern Religious Humanism, we extend this kindness to both our Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors. This Purim we will again partner with the Masbia Soup Kitchen Network and Knock Knock Give a Sock, in providing gifts to those in our neighborhood who truly need our assistance. We will also be supporting several Matanot L'Evyonim projects in Israel that support those in need. You may make a donation here or Venmo us @sixthstreetsynagogue (be sure to specify Purim Charity!). Of course you may also bring in a check (made out to Sixth Street Community Synagogue Rabbi's Discretionary) or cash before or on Purim.

Sponsorship - How could we call ourselves Chabad of Sixth Street without some aggressive fundraising? Chabad of Sixth Street is actively plotting various chaotic activities that require some financial support as well as assistance in setting up. For more information and/or to sponsor something, please click to our Purim Chaos page.

Freilichen Purim!!!
