Friday Night Kiddush has been sponsored by the Bellino Family in honor of Jack Hughes of Team USA Hockey. Proudly Jewish and fiercely determined, Hughes embodies resilience, grit, and excellence on the ice. His scoring of the tie-breaking goal in the gold-medal game brought pride to his team, his country, and to Jews kvelling everywhere. We also mark, with appropriate solemnity, the memory of his front teeth, lost in the noble pursuit of the game.

Shabbat Morning Kiddush has been sponsored by Tamar & Brian Yagoda in observance of the first yahrtzeit of Brian's uncle, Irwin Yagoda (איסר בן חיים ברוך וחיה שרה). Devoted son, beloved brother, and the word's greatest uncle.

Micro Minyan will meet THIS Shabbat! We are grateful to Tali Zilberman for leading and organizing this facet of our children's programming. Micro Minyan begins at 10:30 AM and generally meets on alternating Shabbatot. There will be a  Kommunity Kinder Kiddush Klub immediately following.

Please join us on Sunday morning for Shacharit  and Bagels at 8:30 AM.

News

Inspired by the Torah’s extended focus on the Mishkan, we have launched a Mishkan Campaign during these weeks, with a goal of raising $100,000. These funds will help maintain and repair our building, strengthen security and safety, relieve the accumulated financial burden of recent years, and ensure that Sixth Street remains a place of warmth, learning, prayer, and community. The Mishkan was not built by a few donors, but by a community whose hearts were moved. This is our moment to do the same. Click here for more information. If Sixth Street is or has ever been a place of prayer, a place of learning, a place of comfort, a place of friendship, a place of amusement, or a place where God felt close, we invite you to help sustain it. Let us build something radiant together — not for grandeur, but for presence; not for display, but for dignity; not for ourselves alone, but for the generations who will walk through these doors. Please click here to join us.

Our Tanakh Yomi program is currently studying the Book of Ezekiel. (See the schedule). Ezekiel is the wild prophetic fever-dream where a reluctant exiled priest becomes God’s special-effects department, starring in performance-art sermons, cosmic architecture tours, and the most dramatic comeback story ever given to dry bones.

This week we will read Megillat Esther. The Scroll of Esther is about what happens when a pleasure-loving Persian king replaces a defiant queen with a carefully selected Jewish beauty, while palace politics and wounded ego escalate into a genocidal decree that is ultimately undone through strategic banquets, fasting, and perfectly timed courage. The tale ends in dizzying reversals, an empire-wide celebration of survival, and the era’s most famous intermarried couple walking off into the sunset—leaving Jews everywhere to commemorate their near-destruction with food, frolic, and sanctioned intoxication.

The Midrash Rabbah Class will not meet this Tuesday night.

The Wednesday Night Foundations Classes will meet this week and will focus on Prayer.

On Monday, March 2nd, we will gather for Maariv at 6:30 PM and then immediately read the Megillah. Following the Megillah there will be a celebration in our Social Hall.

On Tuesday morning, March 3rd, we will convene an 8:00 AM Shacharit which will be followed by the Megillah at 8:30 AM.

Purim Charity - Matanot L'Evyonim (gifts to the poor) is arguably the most important mitzvah of Purim. In the course of our own joy, we make it our duty to share with others, thus amplifying the spirit of unity that we read about in the Megillah, and extending the divine generosity shown to our people. In the spirit of modern Religious Humanism, we extend this kindness to both our Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors. This Purim we will again partner with the Masbia Soup Kitchen Network and Knock Knock Give a Sock, in providing gifts to those in our neighborhood who truly need our assistance. We will also be supporting several Matanot L'Evyonim projects in Israel that support those in need. You may make a donation here or Venmo us @sixthstreetsynagogue (be sure to specify Purim Charity!). Of course you may also bring in a check (made out to Sixth Street Community Synagogue Rabbi's Discretionary) or cash before or on Purim.

Sponsorship - How could we call ourselves Chabad of Sixth Street without some aggressive fundraising? Chabad of Sixth Street is actively plotting various chaotic activities that require some financial support as well as assistance in setting up. For more information and/or to sponsor something, please click to our Purim Chaos page.
