A Jewish Approach to Sexuality and Intimacy
Tuesday, June 19, 2018
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Join the women of our community for an open discussion and learning opportunity with our downtown Yoetzet Halacha, Shiffy Friedman. We will explore the Jewish approach to sexuality, intimacy, and the Jewish ethic around consent. We will also use common questions received by Yoatzot Halacha as a framework to discuss physical and emotional challenges that arise in the most intimate area of a relationship.
Please note that the correct start time is 8:00 PM.
This event is open to all women - married and unmarried - and will be a safe place for questions and answers. Feel free to bring your questions, or email them in advance to nycyoetzet@gmail.com, or submit them anonymously at Tinyurl.com/yoetzetQandA.
The event has been sponsored by Adina & Henry Frank, in memory of Adina's mother, Bea Haims.
Shiffy Friedman graduated from Nishmat’s Miriam Glaubach Center’s U.S. Yoatzot Halacha Fellows Program in 2015. She has been counseling women in the area of women's health and halacha, both through her role as Yoetzet Halacha in Westchester County and through teaching brides and couples before marriage. Shiffy has taught at SAR Academy and currently teaches at Ma'ayanot Yeshiva High School. She received her B.A. in Judaic studies from Stern College and a dual M.A. in Education and Jewish Studies from New York University. Prior to that, she spent a year studying in Israel at the Stella K. Abraham Beit Midrash for Women in Migdal Oz. She and her husband, Rabbi Noam Friedman, live with their two children, Avital and Adir, in Morningside Heights, where they serve as the OU-JLIC couple at Columbia/Barnard Hillel.
