THIS Friday night, Parashat Vayishlach (December 1st), we welcome Dr. Moshe Halbertal, Gruss Professor at NYU Law School and Professor of Jewish Thought and Philosophy at the Hebrew University, as our Friday Night Scholar-in-Residence.

Please join us on Friday night for a delicious and social Community Shabbat Dinner. Following the dinner, Dr. Halbertal will speak on the topic: The Problem of Power and The Nature of Political Crime.

DR. MOSHE HALBERTAL


Dr. Moshe Halbertal is the Gruss Professor at NYU Law School and Professor of Jewish Thought and Philosophy at the Hebrew University, and a fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute. He received his Ph.D. from the Hebrew University in 1989, and from 1988-1992 he was a fellow at the Society of Fellows at Harvard University. Halbertal served as a visiting Professor at Harvard Law School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is the author of the books Maimonides: Life and Thought, Idolatry (co-authored with Avishai Margalit) and People of the Book: Canon, Meaning and Authority, both published by Harvard University Press. He is also the author of Concealment and Revelation: Esotericism in Jewish Tradition and Its Philosophical Implications (2007), Between Torah and Wisdom: R. Menachem ha-Meiri and The Maimonidean Halakhists in Provence (2000), and Commentary Revolutions in the Making (1997). His latest book, The Beginning of Politics: Power in the Biblical Book of Samuel, was written together with Dr. Stephen Holmes and released in May 2017.
