We are on Summer Schedule. Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 7:00 PM until September 16th. Join us for services and you shall be rewarded with food, drink, song, and words of Torah.

This Shabbat we welcome Ari Berkowitz, son of Leah & Dr. Avi Berkowitz. Ari first read Eikev when his family returned to NYC nine years ago to celebrate his Bar Mitzva at our synagogue. He is currently enrolled in the Hesder program, serving in the IDF while studying at Yeshivat Gush Etzion.

The Avot d'Rabbi Natan class will resume this Shabbat at 6:00 PM.

News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism, at home, in Israel, and abroad. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Michael Weber and Sarah Kane upon their recent wedding.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Eli Shoshani upon his recent wedding to Maya Stein.

We wish a Mazel Tov to Esther Shechtman & Eren Pamir upon their upcoming wedding this Sunday.

We wish a Mazel Tov to Caila Gordon-Koster & Eric Moed upon their upcoming wedding this Sunday.

Over this summer we have made several building improvements. Just this past week, we replaced our sanctuary circuit breakers and also installed switches and timers. Additionally, our front yard has been cleared and planting has begun! We are most grateful to our wonderful superintendent, Vincenzo Aiosa, his staff, as well as to Nicole Blau who managed the beautification efforts.

Rosh Hashana is six weeks away, and so we ask that you renew your commitment to our synagogue in the form of Membership. Membership dues go a long way in facilitating our synagogue's many improvements and accomplishments. Won't you please share in our great legacy and help us continue our impressive revitalization? There are, of course, various membership options and we hope that one works for you.

Family - $800 (Includes Two High Holidays tickets)
Individual - $450 (Includes One High Holidays ticket)
Associate - $300 (Does not include High Holiday Seats)
Student - $150 (High Holiday Seat may be purchased for $100)

For more information, please contact our treasurer, Alan Schwartz, or Rabbi Bellino.

To make a payment send checks to 325 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10003, or proceed with payment online

With Rosh Hashana six weeks away, please consider starting the New Year with the memories of your loved ones eternalized on our sanctuary walls. We are now offering engraved Yahrtzeit plaques (2 x 10 inches) at the discounted price of $450. If you order within the next week, we are confident that the plaques will be installed prior to Rosh Hashana. You can begin the process by filling out this form.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue and community. To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush, a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino.

The next available kiddush for sponsorship is Shabbat Ki Teitzei, September 17th.

Events

On Tuesday, September 13th, we will hold a panel discussion entitled, Confronting Sexual Abuse in the Orthodox Community. The event begins at 7:00 PM and will feature David Cheifetz (a survivor of abuse and an advocate for victims), Tamara Schoor (a survivor of abuse and an advocate for victims), as well as Dr. Michael Salamon, a noted psychologist and the author of "Abuse in the Jewish Community."

On Friday night, September 16, we will co-host a Shabbat Dinner with 3GNY, an organization devoted to perpetuating the memory of the Holocaust, to telling the story of our families, survivors and victims, and to providing a forum for grandchildren of Holocaust survivors to meet, connect and express ideas with one another. The dinner will feature a talk by Seymour Kaplan, a WWII GI who helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp in 1945.

On Monday, September 19, we will welcome Tamara Pons Allon, who will speak to us about

The Challenges of a 21st Century Pioneer in the Negev: A Modern Take on Making the Desert Bloom. Tamara moved from Tel Aviv to a farm in the Arava region of the Negev. She will speak about living in the Negev, her life as a pioneer woman in Israel, and how she and the JNF are making the Negev habitable for the next generation of Israel's residents.

Chessed on Sixth Street - Several of us have begun to utilize the Synagogue kitchen to prepare meals for the Trinity Place Shelter. The shelter's mission is to help LGBTQ youth and young adults in New York City to safely transition out of the shelter system and grow into independent, positive, and productive adults. To financially support our efforts, please consider donating to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund (Be sure to specify Shelter Meals in the note). Thank you to our August sponsors Alan Schwartz, Moshe Bloxenheim and Dana Friedman. The next meal will be prepared in September If you are interested in cooking, schlepping, or starting your own Chessed initiative, please contact Rabbi Bellino or Tali Zilberman.

Save the Date: Motzei Shabbat, September 24th 10:00 PM - First Night of Selichot.
