News

In these tragic and scary times we stand with Israel and all those victimized by senseless hatred and fanaticism. We pray for safety, healing, and peace.

We wish a Mazal Tov to Sara Eisen & Matthew Levine upon their upcoming wedding. We welcome their family and friends who are here to celebrate.

We wish a Mazal Tov to our friends, Sarah Kane & Michael Weber, upon their engagement!

We are on Summer Schedule. Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat will be at 7:00 PM until September 16th. Join us for services and you shall be rewarded with food, drink, song, and words of Torah.

Join us for the next four Shabbat afternoons as Rabbi Bellino presents the five chapters of Avot and Perek Kinyan HaTorah. For source sheets and charts, click here.

Our plentiful and delicious Kiddushes on Sixth Street greatly enhance our synagogue

and community. To sponsor or co-sponsor a Friday night Kiddush, a Shabbat Kiddush,

a Shabbocktail, our Shabbeer supply, or a Seudah Shelishit, contact Rabbi Bellino.

The next available kiddush for sponsorship is next week, May 28th.

Events

JOMIX: Join us this Monday, May 23rd, at 7:00 PM for a lecture and slide show as Joel Silverstein presents the way Jewish artists use the comics medium as a mean to express their own Jewish identity and cultural experience. He will also examine the complex relationship of art, identity and culture within the Jewish community at large. He will touch on traditional genres such as superhero, political satire, romance, horror, science fiction and confessionals through a Jewish lens. We will serve pizza and beer at 7:00 PM and the presentation will begin at 7:30 PM. RSVP by May 20th.

Lager BaOmer is this Wednesday, May 25th. This event will be a great time for all craft beer enthusiasts and students of Beer Yochai. We are fortunate to have very discerning judges: Jacqueline Fish, Jeremy Block, Mike Miles, and David Neuhaus. There will be snacks and food available for purchase including delicious sausages from the brand new NY Brat Factory. The event begins at 7:30 PM. The first 100 guests will receive a free Sixth Street bottle opener. For more information click here.

We are excited to be a host synagogue of this year’s Eshel Downtown Shabbaton on Shabbat Behukotai (June 3-4). Eshel’s mission is to create community and acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Jews and their families in Orthodox communities. Shabbat hospitality for visiting guests is appreciated.

We very much look forward to Shabbat Nasso (June 17-18) when we will welcome Rav Judah Mischel as our Shabbat Scholar. Reb Judah is the Program and Personnel Director of HASC, a Jewish camp for children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Click here for more information.

Our Annual Dinner will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd at the Brotherhood Synagogue. This essential fundraiser is always delicious and a great time. For more information click here.

Downtown Community

We are thrilled that there are new Kosher options in our neighborhood.

Mocha Burger at 496 Laguardia Place.

The Promenade Sports Bar, 344 Third Avenue, is now completely Kosher. (Not just sushi). Please check them out ASAP.

The Falafel Shop at 127 Rivington Street (between Norfolk & Essex).

We are proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad, an Orthodox rabbinic network, founded by Rabbis Sarna & Bellino, intended to advance the welfare and flourishing of the Downtown community. Check out the Va'ad on Facebook for more information.
